Prop firm consistency rules explained
One huge day can delay your futures payout. Here's how 25%, 30%, 40% and 50% rules work, with real numbers. Education only — not financial advice.
The formula
Consistency % = best day ÷ total profit × 100
Profit needed = best day ÷ rule (e.g. 0.30)
If your percentage is above the rule, you generally keep trading until total profit catches up — the big day isn't erased, it just has to become a smaller share.
Example: a $1,200 best day
The tighter the rule, the more your best day "costs" you. Under a 25% rule, a $1,200 day means $4,800 total before you qualify.

FAQ
What is a consistency rule in a prop firm?
A limit on how much of your total profit can come from a single day. With a 30% rule, your best day must be 30% or less of your total profit in that period.
How do I calculate my consistency percentage?
Divide your best day's profit by your total profit and multiply by 100. A $900 best day on $3,000 total profit is 30%.
What if my best day is too big?
You usually aren't failed — you need more total profit before you can pass or request a payout. Required profit = best day ÷ the rule. A $1,500 best day under a 30% rule needs $5,000 total.
What is the Apex consistency rule?
On the 50K Intraday Trail performance account, Apex applies a 50% consistency rule to payouts: no single day may exceed half of your profit for the request.
Does TradeDay have a consistency rule?
Yes, 30% during the evaluation. EVX's verified TradeDay card lists no consistency rule once you're funded.
Which firm has the strictest consistency rule?
Of EVX's partners, Top One Futures' 25% rule on Elite Sim Funded payouts is the tightest, followed by DayTraders' 30% on Trail Pro payouts.
Is there a consistency calculator?
Yes — the free EVX consistency calculator shows your best-day percentage and the profit you still need.
