Cheddar Flow FAQ for day traders
I day trade stocks and futures, and I use Cheddar Flow's options flow to help time entries at my levels. Here's how it works, based on Cheddar Flow's own site. Affiliate disclosure: I may earn a commission through my link.
How Cheddar Flow works
What is Cheddar Flow?
An options order flow platform. It scans options trades in real time and highlights the large and unusual ones — the orders often placed by institutions and funds — along with dark pool prints and gamma exposure levels.
What is unusual options flow?
Options orders that are large or out of the ordinary compared with normal activity for that contract. Cheddar Flow filters the tape so you see the most significant trades, with bid/ask, sector and Greeks (delta, theta, vega) for each one.
What is a sweep order?
An order split across multiple exchanges to fill fast. Cheddar Flow tracks these intermarket sweeps and groups them for you. Traders watch them because urgency can signal conviction — but a sweep can still be a hedge.
What is dark pool data?
Large, privately negotiated stock trades that print off the public exchanges. Cheddar Flow shows these prints and the price levels where they cluster, which can act as potential support or resistance. It also flags 'signature prints', delayed 24 hours and mostly on major ETFs like SPY.
What is gamma exposure (GEX)?
A view of how market makers may need to hedge, built from call and put gamma across strikes and expirations. Cheddar Flow marks call and put walls (levels that can pin or repel price), a 1-day expected move, and whether net gamma is positive (more mean-reversion) or negative (more trend risk).
What are AI Power Alerts?
Cheddar Flow's AI scans for large, influential options orders and triggers an alert when it sees a potential opportunity. You can review how past alerts performed over 5 days. Treat alerts as ideas to check against your own plan, not trade calls.
Using it for day trading
How do I use options flow to time day-trade entries?
Mark your levels first (prior highs/lows, opening range, VWAP). Then, when price reaches a level, check whether big flow, a dark pool cluster or a gamma wall lines up there. Confluence can help you decide to take the trade or wait — the level is the plan, flow is the confirmation.
Does Cheddar Flow work for futures traders?
It covers stock and ETF options and dark pool data, not futures order flow directly. Many ES and NQ traders watch SPY and QQQ flow, dark pool levels and gamma walls as context for index futures, since those ETFs track the same indexes.
Does big options flow mean price will go that way?
No. Large orders can be hedges, spreads, or positions being closed, and you only see one side of the story. Use flow as one input alongside price action and risk limits — especially on a prop account with a drawdown.
Can I backtest or export the data?
Yes. Cheddar Flow has historical options flow and dark pool history you can search, and you can export intraday and historical data for your own research.
Does it have charts?
Yes, it includes charting powered by TradingView for symbols with active flow. Many traders still keep their main chart in TradingView itself.
