How Does an Options Prop Firm Work?
What a stock options prop firm evaluation looks like, how profit targets and loss limits work, and what to check before you buy an options account.
What is an options prop firm?
An options prop firm lets you trade stock and ETF options (think SPY, QQQ or single stocks) under the firm's rules instead of risking a large personal deposit. You pay for an evaluation, hit a profit target without breaking the loss limit, and then trade a funded account where you can request payouts. Many funded accounts are simulated, so read the agreement for exactly how your account is treated.
How is it different from a futures prop firm?
Futures firms measure risk in contracts and ticks on products like ES and NQ. Options firms measure it in premium and account equity, and options prices also move with time decay and implied volatility. That means a position can lose value even when the stock goes nowhere. Your rules still come down to the same three numbers: profit target, loss limit and payout conditions.

What to check before buying
Confirm four things: how the loss limit trails, whether a consistency rule applies, the minimum payout and payout frequency, and which products and order types are allowed. A cheap plan you can't pass costs more than the right plan at full price.
