Can You Trade CPI, FOMC and NFP News on a Prop Firm Account?

Why major economic releases cause slippage in futures, which reports move the indexes most, and how to protect a prop firm account.

What happens to the market at a big release

Right before major news, many resting orders get pulled. Spreads widen and price can jump many ticks in a second, so stop orders can fill well past where you placed them.

The three reports that move index futures most

CPI (inflation), NFP (the monthly jobs report) and FOMC (Federal Reserve rate decisions and press conferences). Mark them on the economic calendar every week.

Prop firms have different news rules

Some firms restrict trading around major releases and others allow it. Rules change, so read your firm's current news policy before trading a release day.

A safer news-day routine

Be flat a few minutes before the release, let the first spike happen, and only look for a trade once price settles into clear structure. Missing the first move is cheaper than a slipped stop.
